The 50th BMW Berlin Marathon was awesome!
Setting off to repeated thunderous applause by multitudes of runners and spectators, alike, in the morning of 29th September 2024, the BMW Berlin Marathon was to end as top marathon in the world. It was a very special event for me … as I was excited to join the 50th Anniversary of this great race .. running it for the first time.. more so, as 2024 also marks the 50th Anniversary of my birth!
The 2024 Berlin Marathon was extra special for me because it marked the beginning of my race to complete the 6-Star Abbott World Marathon Majors … one down, with five to go!
I am most grateful to JUST RUN TRAVELING TOURS for making my running goal a spectacular success. Special thanks go to Wandisile Nkwalase … a very humble, patient & professional staffer at Just Run Tours … Maximum respect to you, Wawa!
Also worth thanking are my fellow runners who converged on German capital under the same banner of JUST RUN TOURS … you were all amazing .. many thanks for the motivation and best company. We meet again at the next Marathon facilitated by Just Run Tours!
Last but not least, thanks to my running club, Gaborone Striders, for the inspiration & greatest support received in my short time as a marathon runner .. which has now taken my running to the global level. We certainly do not say thank you enough … but thanks & many thanks to the amazing men & women of Botswana’s biggest running club .. the great lime, blue & white ~ for it is our strides, our stories!
Overall, I ran my race as I wanted to … cautious and not overly aggressive ~ and while I did not run my best time, I am thankful to have finished in the time I did… 4:27:11 • Cautious because I had suffered a hamstring strain a couple of weeks ahead of the race… which thankfully didn’t affect my race performance. I was happiest to also form part of history in the making, by running the first ever Generali 5K Race, which was a precursor to the 50th Berlin Marathon.. on 28th September 2024.
I end on an excited note .. that YES, *I HAVE BEEN PART OF THE MARATHON HISTORY MADE IN 2024 … WITH A WORLD RECORD 54,280 RUNNERS CROSSING THE FINISH LINE IN THE BERLIN MARATHON!*
